Lithium Disilicate Blocks & Cubes

Lithium disilicate is the default aesthetic material for anterior single crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers. It is milled in the pre-crystallised ("blue") state, then crystallised in a ceramic furnace such as the Ivoclar Programat to develop its final strength (typically around 360-400 MPa) and final tooth colour. Because the blocks are small and the margin geometry is thin, bur quality and wet-mill calibration matter more here than on any other material.

Workflow notes

Always hydrate the mandrel and use fresh water in the coolant tank - dried residue on the mandrel shifts the mounting by 50-100 um, which is enough to put the margin inside the adhesive cement layer. For anterior cases, test-fit in the blue state before crystallising; blue-state adjustments are almost free, post-crystallisation adjustments are not.
