Dental Milling Wax Discs

Castable milling wax bridges the CAD workflow into the classic lost-wax casting world - instead of wax-up by hand, the restoration is designed in CAD and milled from a wax disc, then invested and cast in metal or pressed in ceramic. The disc material has to burn out cleanly with no ash residue, which is not the same specification as PMMA wax try-in material.

Stocked formats

  • Blue castable wax for metal frameworks and press copings
  • Grey and green try-in wax for fit evaluation (does not burn out cleanly)
  • 98 mm open-system, 95 mm Zirkonzahn, 89 mm Amann Girrbach formats
  • Standard milling thicknesses

Workflow tips

Confirm the disc is labelled "castable" if you plan to invest and burn out - try-in wax will leave residue and ruin a CoCr cast. Dry-mill with a 2-flute carbide bur, and keep an eye on spindle heat: wax softens above around 40 C and margins melt rather than cut. If your wax margins look rounded, slow the feed and reduce the spindle load before replacing the bur.

Compatibility

Sub-categories follow the usual dental CAD disc formats. Open-system 98 mm fits most large dental mills (Roland DWX, XTCERA, IMES-ICORE, Arum, Cradle, UPCERA, Aidite, UP3D and others); 95 mm fits Zirkonzahn M-series; 89 mm fits Amann Girrbach Ceramill Matron / Matik / Motion.
